The socketwrapper issue was only relevant to XP security s/w. People have had general SC problems with ZA but I believe latest version of ZA has sorted some of these out. For security s/w usually disabling it is not enough to clear problems - uninstall is the only sure way to check if the security s/ is to blame.
All the previous advice regarding NOD and ZA have been XP specific and I wonder if they are still applicable to Vista versions. If you feel you are up to a bit of debugging and to get some definitive answer as to why Alien is not working. Run SC from a command prompt window with player.source logging set to Debug will give lots of extra information and will get socketwrapper to produce some additional info.
