Ooops.... Even forcing the output to icecast as a constant bitrate via the convert.conf file, it sets the right bitrate but still the stream can't be relayed by icecast, with the similar error that the stream has fallen too far behind. Its very strange, but must relate to how the squeezecenter produces the stream.mp3 stream....
Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this, or anyone want to pick up my commission suggestion?
