The trackstat backup files are only needed if you like to restore a TrackStat backup. Personally I would recommend saving one backup file for each month and maybe all files from the last week or two and delete the rest. TrackStat currently don't have any logic to delete these files automatically, so you will have to do it manually unless you want them to fill the disk.
