If you just want to decode m4a files (i.e. not AAC+ streams or
RealAudio), then it would be better just to build faad2. It is smaller
and also outputs to stdout.

Yoiu have not stated your platform, OS or processor. For some
distributions or libraries( e.g. debian, optware) there may be a
version of faad (or faad2) already available.

If no built version is available, you can get the source for faad2 2.6.

If building for an ARM or MIPsel processor you will probably have to
enable use of fixed point rather than floating point.
