I just deleted the TrackStat backup and now it works.. I added some new
ratings and the query still executes.
Strange since I think that collation is set on a server, db or table
level (not on the actual data). Perhaps the tables are dropped and
recreated with another collation when deleting(?)
Anyway, I'm just happy to have it working for now, although I lost my
old ratings. I'll try to get some time alone later this weekend, so I
can run your suggested sql:s!


By the way: I also made what I think is a small improvement to the
generated sql, since I want to get unrated tracks as well as rated
tracks I made it a left join instead (a bit slower but worth it, I
think). I think this is will work:

        left join track_statistics on
                tracks.url=track_statistics.url
...
where
...
                and ifnull(track_statistics.rating, 51)>=50
