If it is of any help, iTunes Update is still working fine for me with iTunes 8 on Mac OS X 10.5.4 and SC 7.2.
iTunes 8 seems to have changed the interface, a lot of the preference settings and introduced some new library files. However, as far as I can see at the moment, it still seems to work OK with SC 7.2.
