1. The directions at this web page: http://softsqueeze.sourceforge.net/download.html
tell us to install Java (v > 1.6) and Slimserver (v > 6.0). I installed openjdk-6-jre, which I understand corresponds to v 1.6. I installed SlimCenter v 7.3.1, which certainly satisfies v > 6.0. The same directions say to start softsqueeze from the command line using java -jar SoftSqueeze.jar SoftSqueeze does not start. According to jetradio, softsqueeze is not compatible with SlimCenter v 7.3.1 even though directions do not declare this limitation anywhere that I have been able to find. Evidently, the directions are wrong for failing to disclose this putative restriction. 2. The directions at the same page say that it is not necessary to download softsqueeze because "Softsqueeze2 is included with the slimserver 6.0. To start Softsqueeze follow the instructions in the help section of the slimserver." If instructions are available in the help section of the slimserver, they are hidden well enough to elude me. Evidently, the directions are wrong again. 3. At the home page for SqueezeCenter v 7.3.1 there is an Extras item under which appears SoftSqueeze. There is a two-step procedure for installing and running SoftSqueeze. The first step is to install Java. It's checked because I already installed Java in 1 above. The next step provides a hyperlink labeled "Click to install and run SoftSqueeze". Clicking that hyperlink downloads softsqueeze.jnlp, but it does not install or run it. Evidently, the directions in SqueezeCenter are wrong. 4. Back at http://softsqueeze.sourceforge.net/download.html there are directions for Slimserver integration. Open one of the following links http://localhost:9000/html/softsqueeze/applet.html http://localhost:9000/html/softsqueeze/webstart.html to start softsqueeze as a Java applet or using Java Web Start. The first opens a page that is black and nothing happens. The second opens the same directions that appear in SqueezeCenter under SoftSqueeze (3 above), and following the directions in this page is just as bootless as is following the directions in SqueezeCenter. Evidently, these directions are wrong too. 5. When I search this forum for threads related to softsqueeze, I find only questions about how to use it. Evidently, other people have succeeded in installing and running the program. I sure would be interested in knowing how they managed it. -- jeffbarish ------------------------------------------------------------------------ jeffbarish's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17994 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=57327 _______________________________________________ plugins mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins
