The bad news: my laptop's still not fixed. I thought it was the hard drive, but after unexpected delays getting the drive I ordered, I've found more weirdness suggesting a more fundamental problem. So I'm making lots of incremental backups until my new laptop arrives. :-) The good news: I was able to reproduce the problem you described, and I just published SyncOptions 7a23 which 1) seems to fix the problem and 2) has much more sane logging code, so if you have trouble down the road, you could set the SyncOptions logging to Info or Error to help troubleshoot.
