I use CB in many ways, and in conjunction with erland's other fantastic plugins Custom Scan, SQLplaylist, Trackstat, etc. I use the Genre/subGenre menu to easily navigate hierarchical genres. For example, I have the Classical top genre and several subgenres such as Baroque, Romantic, 20th Century (these are all tagged using a semicolon delimited list in the genre tag.) This makes browsing genres much easier -- the top level is not burdened with an enormous list of genres, but I can have the fine divisions of many subgenres. This feature alone makes CB invaluable to me, and I really hope SC will adopt something similar with the new schema. I use CB/CS to browse non-standard tags, such as composer, and custom user tags. For example, I use the TIT2 field (iTunes Group) to hold different forms, such as symphony or string quartet (for classical) or piano trio, large band (for jazz). CB allows me to create a menu to browse these tags. Similarly, I use CB to browse selected music based on the existence of a keyword in a tag such as COMMENT. As others have mentioned, this can be used to select out music my wife likes, or holiday music, or stuff that I've added recently. Together with the multi-library plugin, CB can be used to design menus specific to portions of your music. I have one for classical and another for everything else. (Many people use libraries to separate different user's music, and there has been talk of SC eventually providing tools for multiple users. I hope as they work on this they provide a way to have multiple users but also allow each user to have multiple libraries. I as a single user have a lot of uses for splitting my music into different libraries for my own listening.) CB, along with Custom Scan and SQLplaylist and Trackstat really make SC work for me. It would be much more difficult to find and select music from my library using the standard SC menus. I really, really, really hope that when SC8.0 comes out that that doesn't spell the end of all these extremely useful tools. Just as bad would be a partial adoption by SC of some of CB and a long delay before plugins get developed to reimplement the rest of the features (understanding that erland develops this stuff for free and he may not be up for a major overhaul like this.) -- wnshall ------------------------------------------------------------------------ wnshall's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=5886 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=58894 _______________________________________________ plugins mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins
