Sounds like there is some problem with your mmserver file.
Make sure it has execution rights by running:

sudo chmod +x /etc/init.d/mmserver

If that isn't the problem it sounds like your mmserver file is somehow
corrupt, it kind of feels like there are incorrect linefeeds in it or
something similar.
Did you copy it from the MusicIP installation or did you copy it from
the wiki ? If you copied it from the wiki, try to use the one from the
MusicIP installation instead.

You will need to encapsulate it with "code" tags. Like this but without
