You're on Windows, right? You'd need a Firecracker *and* an RF
receiver/transceiver like the TM751 that would translate the
Firecracker RF signals into powerline X10 commands. I would hope & 70%
expect that any decent USB-to-serial adapter could be used with the
Firecracker, but I don't own any USB-to-serial adapter myself.

A CM11A powerline controller should be usable with some work, but I'd
need to compile some DLLs to get the CPAN module working, as the 'heyu'
app will never work under Windows. It would probably be easier to use a
SmartHome 2412s serial controller that can handle X10 and Insteon. I've
had poor luck with powerline X10, but recent tests with Insteon gear
suggests that's mainly because the UPS that my SqueezeCenter host is
plugged into wrecks powerline signals. I couldn't even get the more
reliable** Insteon powerline to work until I plugged the UPS into an
X10 noise filter device. With the Firecracker, I could locate the RF
transceiver far enough from the SC host that it could send signals
fairly reliably.

** Insteon works really well once you've got it set up properly. I not
only had to add an RF access point on each phase, but use some X10
noise filters and add some currently unused lamp and appliance modules
to relay the Insteon commands. The end result is better than X10, but
considerably more expensive.
