Ah yes, I was thinking of an improbable script wrapper around pm-utils. >From perl, I use the syslog module, but as a plugin you benefit from SC's logging service which is based on Log4perl. All this uses syslog, and as I said, if you syslog before sleeping and crash at wake-up, there will probably be no trace. So the use of such a trace is limited.
I'm not sure I see the problem expressed by Wirrunna; But for me, simply bumping the priority of a message that would say "calling pm-suspend", within SC, is about the only generic improvement I can imagine. After that, users can try to get further trace at the system level if they wish.
