There is no "Quit SC" option - there is "Exit" or "Stop SuqeezeCenter". If you select "Exit" then you are only stopping the systray app and NOT the SC app.
When you start "SC" from the start menu - you are starting the systrap app. So I think you have not stopped SC at all.
