DLNA is basically an extension of the UPnP Audio/Video Device Control Protocols. DLNA is 100% UPnP plus about 1% extra for DLNA specific features... So I suggest you start by going to www.upnp.org and reading the UPnP Device Architecture followed by the Standardized DCPs for audio/video.
