The client could query the original value, store a new pref that you

So you probably need to write some Perl. AutoDisplay is GPL so you can
certainly modify it (just as I have) if you don't want to write a new
plugin or modify core Logitech code. You could also use a long-running
app on the server that subscribes to prefset events via the CLI, but
that sounds worse to me than a cron job.
