I think on 0.4 you were listening to the MP3 streams not the AAC. The main point to recent updates to iPlayer was to get access to the better quality AAC streams.
To listen to the live stations you do not need iPlayer - just use the WMA URls as provided by menu Internet Radio/ More Radio/ BBC on 7.3 or on 7.4 the BBC app for My Apps.
