Which development environment provides the best debug/step capabilities for Perl applications? Does single stepping work with SqueezeCenter plugins, or is it mainly writing debug to logs? I've done a bit of Perl programming, well hacked together a few basic scripts, before on Windows machines at work, know my way around the basics of openSUSE Linux 11.1, and now need to dive into SqueezeCenter plugins.
My idea is to modify/extend the Server Power Control plugin from Gordon Harris with new menu items so it can control the power to any given server. The reason for this is I have an always on laptop that runs the SqueezeCenter and a much bigger, very power hungry, PC with a big RAID array that hosts the music. As we mostly listen to Internet radio the big computer does not need to be on, but it would be handy to be able to wake it up and shut it down from the SqueezeBoxes. Any further tips, of course, very welcome.
