No. One uses the web server interface and the other the CLI interface. You can compare it to the controller but then the controller always just searches for one category at a time (albums or artists or genres...) iPhone or connection speed should have nothing to do with it, unless you are getting hundreds of results that should be just fractions of seconds. Anything else is server. Any changes to the server, recently? Although the database part should be the same in the app and the plugin so this is really strange.
