The fault is mine. Two of my squeezeboxes are synchronised, meaning that they play and pause together. For some reason I had assumed that they also switch-off together. Not so. If I stop one, the other carries on streaming, explaining the drain on my broadband bandwidth. I have now found the "power off / on with group" toggle in Squeezebox Server that should solve my problem.
