I don't really understand your issue nor which UPNP you are turning
off.  IIRC Softsqueeze knows nothing about uPNP but if there is a clash
of port - obviously it will not work.

Here is my understanding of the port usage.

I don't think SBS settings affects which port it uses.  I think it mau
just depend on whether you have a UPNP server up and running on the same
system but I'm not sure. If at SBS startup, port 9000 is unavailable,
SBS will try 9001 and so on until it finds a port.  IIRC When each
player broadcasts a requests requesting every SBS to respond - the SBS
servers respond with their address and the port to be used.

Port 9000 (or whatever) is used to stream the audio data.  Port 3483 is
used for display and control of the playback including monitoring of the
player buffer status.
