Addictive isn't it?  Whatever suits you best really.  I deliberatrly
made SqueezeIR as flexible as possible to allow people to configure it
any way they like.  The downside is that it can be a pig to configure. 
I tend to hold Home for power toggle but that's just me.

For input select, if you just have a "next input" button on the
original remote then I'd use something like fwd+rew to move through the
inputs.  If you have seperate codes for each input then I think the best
thing is to create a menu of inputs.  You create menus in a similar way
to profiles except they contain <item> elements instead of <key>
elements.  You also need to put <menu>name</menu> into the profile so
that it knows which is the start menu.  There's plenty of examples in
the thread.

You could even have more than one <action> assigned to the power on
<event> so you can switch your amp on AND switch it to the correct
input all in one go (hint: <action order="2">).
