I've got Custom Browse working smoothly now on 7.6. I think my problem was that I was using the built-in artistheader-artwork menu that uses pictures from one's own hard drive rather than last.fm. It appears that no update for this menu is included in the latest version. Once I removed the old version, Custom Browse began responding as it should. I hope at some point you are able to update the built-in menu allowing use of ones own artist pictures.
