It's payment for streaming. I can't take the music away with me, and after
years of paying £10 a month, I wouldn't own anything for the money. If Spotify
were to decide to stop the service, or if the service degraded, or my slightly
iffy broadband connection got worse or I move house to somewhere that can't
support that rate, I'd have nothing to show for it.

My musical tastes are a bit extreme; Spotify don't carry large chunks of my
music collection; I actually find more luck with Last.FM, which I believe is
cheaper (although I have only dabbled with Last.fm subscriptions for a few
months in the past).

I think Spotify can be a great way to discover or try new music that is
recommended. I'd be more happy with a cheaper/free (add supported) streaming
service. I kind of have that with Spotify on the desktop. If there was some
killer feature for truly discovering new music based on my listening habits,
etc, then maybe it would be worth it, but I'm not seeing that with Spotify yet;
just top music lists based on average user accesses, and manual navigation to
related artists, which I can get from other providers already (eg. Last.fm).
