thanks for explaining the process. I turned on plugin.spotify (at the logging tab) and gave it the debugging level. Subsequently I made some changes in the spotify plugin settings, submitted these, and: no mention whatsoever in the server.log file.
I will test with a manually created spotifyd.conf file.
