Are you sure the controller has the whole list? Controller (like iPeng) loads chunks of 200 items but since the controller doesn't cache, it can read each chunk on it's own while iPeng always wants the whole list. So you might not notice if 200 artists are missing in between. Also, the controller uses a bit different interface than iPeng, that one might be a bit better tested since it's being used by all of Logitech's newer players.
