Got me foxed, and, as I said, I am at (beyond) the limit of my IT skills. I remembered last night that my wife's laptop has SBS 7.4 installed on Vista. I switched to that, the SB downgraded its firmware and the AAC streams worked.
I tried downgrading on my new laptop - it didn't work. It doesn't work on my old laptop which has a virgin installation of W7 - it did work before the OS rebuild. All very odd. The matter is not critical. I am happy with the 192 WMA streams. I will watch the situation and hope someone else turns up the problem and finds the solution.
