Hi Triode, thanks for looking at this - I have now fixed it. 

You were right - somehow (!) Windows Firewall had been switched back on
and was causing this error message. 

I use another AV (Vipre) which I have found to be not so problematic
with Spotifyd and generally better than Windows Firewall - not that
that is so very difficult. so there is no need to have two AV's. Once I
had switched Win. Firewall off, all was ok 

Very odd manifestation. 

I hope I am not tempting fate by saying the plugin is excellent
nowadays, don't seem to get rebuffering.
