Using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS with ALSA (i setup the audio with alsamixer and
alsa is selected into my Audacity setup...)

I did the test and the recorded file it's ok

Everytime I use the "Sound Recorder" app in Ubuntu, audio recording
source in alsamixer move to "AUX", instead of "MIX".
Using WaveInput everything is ok in the alsamixer configuration, but
the player stops after few seconds of silence.
