That does make sense, however why is this only happening with your 3rd party app. I am able to listen to tracks without any issue at all on the Squeezebox Radio using the official Spotify app. Only when I use the 3rd party app to stream to the duet do I get the problem. There must be a setting that I haven't got right... but I just can't figure it out. Thank you for the help so far.
