Sorry, I missed that you wanted to display ARTISTSORT, I thought you
just wanted to sort by it and then standard scanner works but if you
like to display it (and don't want to change the ARTIST tag) Custom
Scan/Custom Browse is probably the best solution. Changing the ARTIST
tag in the music files would work with the standard scanner but I'm
guessing there is a reason why you don't want to do this.

The issue is that you have started with a menu template which have the
structure:

<Matching artists>
<Matching albums>
<Matching tracks>

What you need is a menu template with the structure:
Code:
--------------------
<Custom tag>
<Matching albums>
<Matching tracks>
--------------------
I would probably use the "Custom Tags Albums" template.
The only issue you are going to get is that you won't be able to put
compilations into a specific "Various Artists" section, but I'm not
sure if that's critical in your library ?
The "Mixed Tag" template would also work but for that you need to use
the "Mixed Tag" scanning module also and you need to define the whole
menu hierarchy, so it becomes a bit more advanced than just using the
"Custom Tags Albums" template which is made specifically for this
scenario.
If you want to separate compilation albums into a "Various Artists"
menu I think it might be possible to have two separate main menus by
using the Multi Library plugin, it might also be possible to manually
edit the XML in a menu based on the "Custom Tags Albums" template but I
think that could become fairly advanced unless you are familiar with
SQL/XML.
