Thanks erland, this worked exactly as you described. No duplicate tracks
after import, and after one re-scan, it looks like this now, which is as
expected:

Code:
--------------------
    $ grep musicbrainzId
/media/stubenas/usb1/trackstat/trackstat_scheduled_backup_20120427b-manual-nohist.xml
 | sort | uniq -c -d

These are the remaining MusicBrainz induced Original Album vs.
Compilation duplicates.

Switching off musicbrainzid functionality completely wouldn't be an
option for me, as I'm going to great lengths to make my TrackStat data
location independent. I could live with TrackStat detecting duplicates
and falling back to URL based identity just for those.

I'm sure there's a reason (probably an intricate technical one) why we
can't use a combined album/track id key instead of the track id only
going forward?

Anyway, I've always thought of the MusicBrainzId thing as kind of a
kludge, as it is inherent that it cannot provide ids for every track,
think of e.g. personal recordings which aren't even published. The ideal
for me would be TrackStat generating its own IDs automatically, which
have to be unique only within the local library, and which don't have to
be worldwide identical for a song. For me it's just about being able to
rename/relocate without losing history. I'm afraid that's much easier
said than done, of course...
