I know "TrackStat Playlist" plugin caused some performance issues, because it writes to the playlist every time a track is played and this takes time, especially in a larger library. I would suggest that you try to: 1. Install "TrackStat Playlist" plugin (and Custom Scan plugin) 2. Ensure the "Continously write a to playlists when songs are played and ratings are changed in SqueezeCenter" is disabled 3. Verify that the system works as usual 4. Manually start an playlist export from Custom Scan settings page and let it finish before you start to use the system. 5. Continue play music after point 4 is completely finished.
Point 2 is really important and point 4 can probably take some time so do it when you are not about to play music.
