this doesn't work for me either. I waited a couple of songs that got added to the list after enabling this feature, but they still included songs from Spotify.
What kind of mix are you playing when this happens? Please also check the server.log file. If setting this parameter failed you might see some debug output in the log file. You could enable debugging before applying this parameter to get the most information (Settings/Advanced/Logging/plugin.smartmix=debug).
