Thanks for analyzing this. The reason why I don't simply want to increase the timeout to 30min is that for many users with a faster setup this makes no sense. What I will do instead is to make a number of performance-related parameters (incl. timeout, but also number of items fetched from the server per request) configurable in the GUI.
