Thanks for the suggestion. That doesn't work because when I pull in the
carport, the only network seen is the secondary one, and phone connects
to it. (My preferred network is already first alphabetically.) Once
inside the house, the preferred network has the higher signal strength
also, but I'm stuck on the secondary. 

There is also a thing you can do with the iPhone Configuration Utility
to set a preferred network, but it didn't work for me for the same
reason stated above.
