OK, regarding scrolling performance I've found another issue that was a bit obscure and is really... well, no so obvious. If you experience choppy scrolling, could you check whether this only happens when you control synced players?
This is one of these cases where problems really are where you don't expect it... in this case in the way the three small images for synced player throw shadows at each other... It's a dynamic shadow and since everything below the images is somewhat transparent it uses the information from the artwork scrolling beneath it to calculate the shadow which is unbelievably slow. I used the same code in iPeng for iPad, too, but there the bar was opaque and never caused any trouble...
