Yes, that's on iPhone 4 or 4S, right. Sorry, can't avoid it. The problem is that with the Navigation bar the index bar doesn't fit into the screen size but when the navigation bar gets scrolled away it does.
The way to handle it is to keep the finger on the index bar and move to the index you want to reach.
