Can't help if you keep getting the connection error messages - they come from libspotify which is provided by spotify. What I can say is that you need to have set a username/password which does not give the previous bad user/password error. It can never work until you reenter the password when you see that as the plugin does not store the password, it relies on libspotify to do that once it has first logged in.
