Actually, there are disadvantages like storage and bandwidth requirements which are scarce in mobile applications. So lossless streaming may in fact not be "the best" but a rather poor compromise. Lossless has its uses (I have an extensive collection of lossless files as well) but it doesn't make sense for streaming. Except in extremely rare instances of problem/killer samples, MP3 with a bitrate of roughly 192 kbps or higher is perceptually identical to lossless -- even for trained listeners.
