Yes, NFO files are plain text containing XML data. For music related NFO

Ok, 0.9.10 is on its way to you. Changes:
- add (limited) support for XBMC's artist.nfo and album.nfo files:
content is parsed and rendered to a simple HTML page on devices which
support HTML display. This is experimental. Please report back.
- add support for local files when browsing Artist Information /
Biography and Album Information / Review. Aforementioned *.nfo as well
as (artist|bio|biography|review|albumreview).(txt|html) files will be
used instead of online resources if available. The plugin would walk up
the folder hierarchy (from the track's folder) to cover eg.
