It depends on which hardware you are using for LMS, but you can see if
it's doing something by going to LMS Settings/Advanced/Logging and
enable "debug" level logging on "plugin.customscan" and then look in the
server.log file. If it produces a lot of messages it means that it's
working. On slow hardware Custom Scan can generally take some time to
execute, so 3 hours isn't unusual if you are running LMS on a slow
computer, NAS or similar.
