I've just installed the official app, and I see the same behaviour - i.e. if I have a stream running on one speaker, and start a different stream to a different player then the first one stops. Not sure what you mean about controlling it through the app.
What does Triodes pluging give me that the official one doesn't? At lease in the official one I can see my playlists...
