I have stared at my firewall settings again, and now see that I have a whole range open between 30000 and 60000 for my local network (I misread the relevant IP as being 192.168.1.22, whereas it is actually 192.168.0.0/22. Apologies for my previous error. So 49152 is being used by something else - that's fair enough. But why won't 49153 work then with the firewall on, whereas ? does work? I give in, for now at least. I had imagined the ports needed for UPnP would be fairly clear, but that does not seem to be the case. It's obvious I don't understand what is using which ports for what between the three elements of the set up. I know you wrote something up a while back, but then I find more strange addresses (eg the multicast one) being required. Maybe I am just crazy. LMS 7.9 on VortexBox Midi, Xubuntu 14.04, FLACs 16->24 bit, 44.1->192kbps. LMS & Squeeze2upnp to MF M1 CLiC (to MF amp & ESLs) & Marantz CR603 UPnP renderers. Minimserver (server) & upplay (control point) to same renderers & to upmpdcli/mpd PC renderers. Squeezelite to Meridian USB Explorer DAC to speakers/phones. Wireless Xubuntu 14.04 laptop with firefox/upplay or Android 'phone with Squeeze-Commander/BubbleUPnP controls LMS/Minimserver.
