I'm using LMS 7.9 and iPeng 8 on my iPhone 6 and iPad Air 2 and I'm not impressed with the album art performance. Most of the time it takes a 1/4 second per album when displaying art on my local wireless AC.
LMS 7.9 is running on a quad core virtual machine with 8gb of dedicated ram and the virtual drive is on an SSD. OS is Server 2012 R2. I have it configured with the largest memory option, precache artwork is on. I see the custom ipeng 300x300 being generated. I turned on the first 2 artwork debugging options and i see the log entries for using precaching. All artwork is stored in folder.jpg files. My artwork is 1000x1000 at the least for most everything. But most is also not perfectly square. ie) 1000x1005, 1017x1000 etc etc. Also it's high DPI created from Photoshop.
