I've not found a solution to that yet. Players like Sonos WANT a file size on mp3 otherwise they won't play the file. At least, the "large size" is by default 1Gb and that gives a decent amount of hours of playback even @ 320kbps (I think around 7 hours if I'm correct). LMS 7.7.2 - 5 radio, 3 Boom, 4 Duet, 1 Touch, 1 SB2.
