OK - fixed it! I re-installed the app on my server, and then allowed spotifyd.exe through my firewall. Fairly sure I tried this previously, but if I didn't, sorry for troubling you, and thanks for all your help!
Everything is now working fine. I don;t need to by a Sonos system,. Yet ... Jon Main system: SB Touch, Arcam A85, Tannoy V4i speakers SB Classic into JVC R-1XL Stereo Receiver and JPW bookshelf speakers (an Ebay/ Freecycle set up!)
