This is a copy of a post I just put on chromecast thread but is relevant here:
It is in response a post from ian_heys (in the UK) stating that an official BBCiiPlayer Android app stops every so often while playing live streams whenplayed through Chromecast. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Happy Christmas as well. The house is quiet so I can jot a few notes as well. Outside the UK on all the BBC DASH services national live servcies - I have had problems with BBCiPlayer every so often a DNS error and stream stops. To check was it an BBCiPlayer implementation issue I checked BBC live streams playing DASH reference player (which is also used in CCA) and using Chrome developer console noted latency (time between HTTP GET and response) on BBC live services. Most response time was about 150-200ms. However roughly within every half hour there is a packet with a response time in seconds and then range is between 2 secs and 2 mins !!. Here (Outside the UK) the frequency of these "Long" response time varies throughout the day - worse around 10am and also late even. The very long response time packet (15secs or longer) can happen as often as 1 per hour but often 1 per 3-4hours. I suspect BBC knows this is a potential issue and why DASH has not been announced. I'm playing around with enabling cache and extending exipiry times to minimise DNS issues, specifying longer timeout on DASH http/GET for chunk to 30 secs and trying to increase amount of audio buffered in player (e.g. 30 secs rather than 3-10 secs normal for live internet radio) without a long startup time. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=104672 _______________________________________________ plugins mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins
