Hi. Ralphy and I did some testing some time ago and it turned out that the behaviour was dependent on what you have in the "output settings" on the Squeezelite web-page in pCP. This is currently our findings - maybe Ralphy knows more now as he just recently got his hands on a I2S-DAC. If using a I2S card and use: hw:CARD=IQaudIODAC then the amplitude of the VU is dependent upon the volume if I use plughw:CARD=IQaudIODAC then the amplitude of the VU is independent upon the volume For the analog it is opposite. plughw:CARD=ALSA then the amplitude of the VU is dependent upon the volume and sysdefault:CARD=ALSA then the amplitude of the VU is dependent upon the volume BUT if I use hw:CARD=ALSA then the amplitude of the VU is independent upon the volume I haven't checked with a USB-DAC.
