To restate my view on the BBCiplayer plugin test version.

1. If you set it up to use HLS as main format - then no difference from
current plugin as it is just a bundling of patches and changing
menu.opml URL t
2. DASH is currently a beta test for BBC and you can set your brower
based player to use HTML5 which includes using DASH see
http://www.bbc.co.uk/html5 Beta also means BBC may or may not have
deployed/contracted adequate resources to supports lots of users playing
DASH formats.
3. There is no contact between BBC and myself. I believe info on DASH
related URLs etc and probably other support technical info have been
distributed to equipment manufacturers/ vendors to have an orderly
changeover.
4. AFAICT Problems with DASH (and probably HLS) are region dependent -
probably due to the CDNs. I am not in UK and I have noted problems
(which could stop a program playing) with DASH at least once per hour
during busy periods. I believe these problems are load dependent since
they didn't happen over christmas break but occurred during workdays
before Christmas and reappeared after New Year.
5. There is a problem which shows up with some Window based LMS servers
with players that do not support native AAC and some configurations of
Castbridge Chromecast.

Separately - the BBCiPlayerExtra will stop working (some aspects are
already broken) as BBC continually change the underpinings of BBC
iPlayer web and app players and retire the interfaces the
BBCiPlayerExtra uses.
