You could put give these their own Genre (i,e, DNP) , then in the Smartmix options, exclude DNP Not sure if this would work, but try "-John Williams" in the Artist Field in the Smartmix recipe.
7.9 would allow you to create "library views", filtered views of your music collection. Create one which doesn't include what you don't want to see in the mixes, tell SmartMix to use that library view.
